At Kathy Corbet Interiors, tile is a constant companion. It’s not just its renowned durability that draws us to it, although that’s certainly a plus, especially in moisture-prone areas. What truly captivates us about working with tile is the sheer breadth of design possibilities it offers.

Ripple Edge Detail
To keep it simple we will focus on a perennial favorite: subway tile.
And we really can’t keep it all that simple!
First, the sizes vary: 2 x 4, 3 x 8, 2 x 10.

Then there is the variety of colors, textures and edge treatments.
The pattern we choose to lay the tile in can make a big difference in the look of a room. “Broken joint” gives a classic timeless look.
Straight stacking is more contemporary; vertical stacks can make a room look taller and horizontal will draw eyes side to side.
We also utilize herringbone and basketweave layouts. This link will take you to a PDF guide showing many different layouts in many different tile shapes.
After we determine the layout we move on to grout selection.
Grout can be chosen to blend in and give the surface a solid, single color look.
It can also be selected lighter or darker to be part of the design. This link will show you an installation with light and dark grout.

Morris Tile’s inaugural Design Council was formed in 2024. Made up of seasoned designers and contractors, industry leaders and forward-thinkers, the Design Council is an advisory board sharing insight into today’s ever-changing trends, offering innovative perspectives, and exploring the dynamic landscape of design. Through discussion and collaboration, the Design Council is a cornerstone of Morris Tile’s goal of bringing the best available products from around the world to our convenient showrooms.
Over seven decades and three generations, Morris Tile has built a reputation as the contractor’s favorite tile store. With the launch of the Design Council, our goal is to leverage our experience and our industry bona fides to facilitate an easy and frictionless process from concept to installation. We aim to be the bridge between the designer’s artistic vision and the contractor’s capable know-how.
By working directly with a select group of industry-leading designers, Morris Tile can focus and refine our selection experience. With hundreds of thousands of unique tiles available from more than 50 vendors, Morris Tile has plenty to choose from—but finding the right product for the right job can be an overwhelming process. The Morris Tile Design Council will bring order to chaos by bringing the products designers really need to center stage. Our showroom is your showroom, so we want it to be curated by the designers that use it.
The inaugural class of Design Council members was chosen to reflect the boldness of our vision. We’ve assembled a group of the Richmond area’s most uncompromising interior designers and design-build contractors—not a chorus of our biggest fans, but a group of opinionated professionals who will give it to us straight and tell us what we really need to hear. With the help of our Design Council, Morris Tile will be the designer’s first choice for tile.
