Celebrating Excellence: Wins for Leo Lantz and Kathy Corbet in the 2024 PRO Awards

The 2024 PRO Remodeler of the Year Awards brought together the best in design and remodeling across Central Virginia. Two exceptional members of the Morris Tile Design Council (MTDC), Leo Lantz of Leo Lantz Construction and Kathy Corbet of Kathy Corbet Interiors, received top honors for their outstanding contributions to the industry. Their well-deserved recognition underscores their dedication to their craft, their communities, and their commitment to innovation.

At Morris Tile Distributors, we’re honored to celebrate their achievements. We were privileged to contribute as a trade partner to one of Leo’s award-winning projects and are proud to be part of a network of collaborators who help make projects like these a reality.

Leo Lantz’s Lifetime Impact and Award-Winning Vision

Leo Lantz Construction took home the Grand Award for Commercial Renovation, a reflection of Leo’s exceptional ability to transform spaces. The project, a comprehensive restoration of a 1936 convenience store, beautifully preserved the building’s historic charm while transforming it into a modern kitchen and bathroom showroom.

As a trade partner for this project, Morris Tile Distributors provided premium tile materials to support Leo’s vision. The success of this transformation reflects the strength of collaboration among skilled professionals.

Leo’s contributions to the remodeling industry extend far beyond this remarkable project. He was also honored with the Robert Lytle Lifetime Achievement Award, PRO’s highest honor. This award recognizes individuals who have made an enduring impact on the remodeling industry, elevated its professional image, and supported their communities through meaningful contributions.

With nearly every certification PRO offers, including Master Certified Remodeler (MCR) and Universal Design Certified Professional (UDCP), Leo exemplifies excellence and a commitment to education. His leadership within the industry inspires others to raise their standards, and his dedication to charitable initiatives underscores his role as a true pillar of the remodeling community.

Kathy Corbet’s Innovation and Leadership in Design

Kathy Corbet Interiors received the Grand Award for Residential Bath Under $50,000 for a project that turned an underused closet into a stunning and functional powder room. This elegant redesign greatly enhanced the flow and convenience of the home. Kathy’s creativity also earned her the Merit Award for Residential Interior Under $150,000, where her team reimagined a primary bath suite to deliver luxury and functionality without expanding the home’s footprint.

In addition to her design accomplishments, Kathy was recognized with the Contractor’s Choice Award, a testament to her outstanding collaboration and leadership within the PRO community. Her work and dedication to fostering partnerships have made her a trusted leader in the field.

Designing With Tile

Designing With Tile

Herringbone Brick

At Kathy Corbet Interiors, tile is a constant companion. It’s not just its renowned durability that draws us to it, although that’s certainly a plus, especially in moisture-prone areas. What truly captivates us about working with tile is the sheer breadth of design possibilities it offers.

Ripple Green B Joint

Tile allows us to craft spaces that are not only functional but also visually appealing.  From beautiful colors that span the spectrum to an abundance of shapes and patterns, the options seem boundless.  We enjoy the creative freedom afforded by tile and are constantly exploring new layouts and experimenting with grout colors to further expand the design palette.

We’ve been transforming our clients’ homes for over 20 years and Morris Tile has been a great partner in helping us source our projects and bring our ideas to life. Join us in the Morris Tile Showroom where we will share with you what we take into consideration in the almost endless realm of designing with tile.

Ripple Edge Detail

To keep it simple we will focus on a perennial favorite: subway tile.

And we really can’t keep it all that simple!

First, the sizes vary:  2 x 4, 3 x 8, 2 x 10.

Then there is the variety of colors, textures and edge treatments.

The pattern we choose to lay the tile in can make a big difference in the look of a room.  “Broken joint” gives a classic timeless look.

Straight stacking is more contemporary; vertical stacks can make a room look taller and horizontal will draw eyes side to side.

We also utilize herringbone and basketweave layouts.  This link will take you to a PDF guide showing many different layouts in many different tile shapes.

After we determine the layout we move on to grout selection.

Grout can be chosen to blend in and give the surface a solid, single color look.

It can also be selected lighter or darker to be part of the design.  This link will show you an installation with light and dark grout.

Ready to transform your space with the timeless versatility of tile? We can guide you through the options and bring your vision to life. Whether you’re planning a small update or a complete renovation, let’s collaborate to create something truly extraordinary. Contact us today and let the journey to your dream space begin!

Introducing the Morris Tile Design Council

Introducing the Morris Tile Design Council

Morris Tile’s inaugural Design Council was formed in 2024. Made up of seasoned designers and contractors, industry leaders and forward-thinkers, the Design Council is an advisory board sharing insight into today’s ever-changing trends, offering innovative perspectives, and exploring the dynamic landscape of design. Through discussion and collaboration, the Design Council is a cornerstone of Morris Tile’s goal of bringing the best available products from around the world to our convenient showrooms.

Over seven decades and three generations, Morris Tile has built a reputation as the contractor’s favorite tile store. With the launch of the Design Council, our goal is to leverage our experience and our industry bona fides to facilitate an easy and frictionless process from concept to installation. We aim to be the bridge between the designer’s artistic vision and the contractor’s capable know-how.

By working directly with a select group of industry-leading designers, Morris Tile can focus and refine our selection experience. With hundreds of thousands of unique tiles available from more than 50 vendors, Morris Tile has plenty to choose from—but finding the right product for the right job can be an overwhelming process. The Morris Tile Design Council will bring order to chaos by bringing the products designers really need to center stage. Our showroom is your showroom, so we want it to be curated by the designers that use it.

The inaugural class of Design Council members was chosen to reflect the boldness of our vision. We’ve assembled a group of the Richmond area’s most uncompromising interior designers and design-build contractors—not a chorus of our biggest fans, but a group of opinionated professionals who will give it to us straight and tell us what we really need to hear. With the help of our Design Council, Morris Tile will be the designer’s first choice for tile.
